Root-Cause Problem Solving

Manufacturing Problems Rarely Have Just One Cause. We Look at the Complete Process.

A production problem may originate in the machine, program, tooling, workholding, material, measurement method or process sequence — and often more than one factor is involved.

The objective is to identify the actual constraint, separate symptoms from causes and develop a practical, reliable solution.

01

CNC & EDM Programming Problems

Programming instability, offsets, compensation, cutting conditions and process-development issues affecting production.

02

Machine & Process Troubleshooting

Root-cause support across machine behavior, tooling, setup, alignment, alarms and production recovery.

03

Wire EDM Instability

Wire breaks, flushing, threading, grounding, cutting conditions, taper and dimensional-control problems.

04

Dimensional & Metrology Problems

Use inspection and measurement data to isolate variation related to machine, program, tooling, workholding or process.

05

Fixtures & Workholding

Improve rigidity, accessibility, repeatability, grounding and setup efficiency for difficult manufacturing applications.

06

Production Bottlenecks

Reduce unnecessary cycle time, setup requirements and process complexity while protecting quality and repeatability.

CNC Performance & Root-Cause Audit

Find the Actual Constraint. Not Just the Symptom.

Manufacturing problems often involve more than one variable. The audit reviews the complete process to identify where performance, repeatability or production is being lost.

Root-Cause Approach

Identify the actual constraint, test the likely causes methodically, and develop a solution that is technically sound, practical to implement and reliable in production.

How It Works

A structured path from symptom to solution.

01

Submit

Share the machine, process, symptoms and current production information.

02

Analyze

Review machine behavior, programming, tooling, setup and available inspection data.

03

Isolate

Separate symptoms from likely root causes using controlled, methodical analysis.

04

Recommend

Receive practical corrective actions and improvement opportunities based on the findings.

Manufacturing Approach

Solve the Process. Not Just the Immediate Problem.

Strong manufacturing support requires more than changing a program or replacing a tool. The goal is to understand how the complete process behaves and build solutions that remain stable in production.

01

Process Development

Machining strategy, setup planning, workholding, tooling, feeds and speeds, and process consolidation.

02

Root-Cause Troubleshooting

Separate symptoms from causes using machine behavior, measurements, setup conditions and controlled changes.

03

Fixture Design

Rigidity, accessibility, repeatability, machine clearance, operator use, inspection access and future flexibility.

04

Metrology-Driven Analysis

Use inspection data to distinguish machine, program, tooling, workholding, material and measurement effects.

05

Training & Support

Teach both the procedure and the reason behind it so operators can recognize and solve future problems.

06

Continuous Improvement

Improve output without sacrificing quality, repeatability, tool life, machine reliability or process stability.

About the Founder

Built on theShop Floor.

Jacob McMahon brings more than a decade of hands-on manufacturing experience across CNC milling, turning, Wire EDM, CNC grinding, metrology, programming and process development.

His work focuses on solving manufacturing problems across the complete process — machine, program, tooling, workholding, material, inspection and production flow — and turning those findings into practical shop-floor solutions.

The goal is not simply to make a machine run again. It is to understand why the process is underperforming and build a solution that is technically sound, practical to implement and reliable in production.
